Is Being a Self Help Junkie a Bad Thing?

To answer the question above...it depends...

If you are collecting and reading the material and not putting into practice what you are learning, then the answer is a define YES. However, reading and then practicing the lessons is another matter.

I recently read an article that said being a Self Help Junkie is a negative; however, I don’t agree. It really all depends on your interpretation of the term.

Changing your life must come from the inside and is a life style change not a quick fix. You do need to continue learning, reading and putting into action what you have learned or you just end up with a bunch of dust collecting material, over stocked bookshelves and a collection of motivational material. Keep in mind though, that even the most famous people still read motivational material and continue to explore ways to improve themselves. The difference is, they actually USE the material.

Learning some of the clearing techniques to eliminate "unconscious beliefs" is, in my opinion, necessary for true happiness. Experts in the field will tell you that, even though you have cleared some beliefs, new ones can often appear and you need to clear those as well. Therefore, having knowledge of how to recognize and clear these limiting beliefs is necessary.

I'm not saying you need to buy every self help product out there, you just need to find a few that work for you and continue using them. Just keep in mind that what works for some doesn’t work for everyone. And what works for one situation will not necessarily work for all situations, so it is good to have a few techniques at your disposal.

When I call myself a self help Junkie, it isn't that I just collect the material. I actually do USE it! Granted some of the material I have received is just garbage and of no real use to anyone (and that you will not see on my blog or website). I also enjoy investigating new techniques as they become available to see if they have any validity.

After starting on the self improvement path, be sure to examine your life periodically and be honest with yourself…are you noticing improvements? If not, then it is time to stop and re-examine what you are doing and why.
